SOCODEE’s goals are:

• To empower communities in climate change adaptation measures and environmental protection and food security initiatives.
• To campaign and protect water sources for the benefit of the whole community.
• To fight against human rights violations: to end violence against women, people with disabilities, especially those with albinism and with red eyes.
• To work for adaptation and mitigation of climate change, community greening and combating (air, land, water) pollution.
• To empower those people who suffer most from environmental abuses so that together find peaceful ways of preventing the environmental destruction and abuse.
• To empower people to use clean fuels in houses so that to reduce respiratory and other health problems through improved indoor and outdoor air quality.
• To mobilize the community to preserve environments; eg planting trees and protecting soil erosion.
• To create and implement campaigns which bring in needed solutions to people – awareness raising which leads to action and training to local people and communities who are directly affected.
• To advocate for the struggle of environmental justice - the protection of all life of people, animal and plants.

Protection of Environments from Destruction

SOCODEE has involved communities to stop pollution of their environments by organizing campaigns to stop toxic materials into the communities water sources Eg. Wells, rivers, lakes, etc.

Protection of Water Sources

This is done by planting trees around water sources which protect the water sources: eg planting fig trees, bamboo trees, etc.

Vulnerable Communities Economic Empowerment

Dairy goat keeping and provision of goats. Training is good agricultural practices in communities Communities engage in growing trees and planting them.

Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Activities:

Training women in smokeless stove construction and making of briquette SOCODEE provides trainings on how to produce smokeless stoves and charcoal briquettes. The use of smokeless stoves and briquettes significantly reduces demand for firewood, thereby easing the pressure on natural forests and allowing regeneration to take place. Smokeless stoves also reduce carbon emissions and are safer to use. Charcoal briquettes have many benefits over firewood: they produce more heat with blue flame (which indicates that the gas is being burned efficiently without any unburned and wasted gas), they are smokeless – meaning they are better for air quality, they are 50% cheaper in comparison to traditional charcoal, the production process is faster, and they are chemical and dust free which means less health risks for users.
